Seniors lead the way as Ferndale girls get their first win

The seniors led the way on Monday night, as the Ferndale Wildcats got their first win of the season in girls basketball, beating Potter Valley 61-16.

The Cats, who are now 1-1, played with just six players but dominated with all six of them contributing.

Carly Çarmesin led the way offensively and finished with 18 points in the victory, as well as eight rebounds and six assists, while fellow senior Emily Chavez added 14 points and five steals.

“I liked how we played as a team and moved the ball to get the shots that we wanted,” head coach Terra Albee said. “We shot the ball much than our last game.”

Another senior, Kyla Albee, also had a good night and finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Clara Christiansen had seven points, Tia Henrikson had five points and Clara Albee chipped in five boards, four steals and three assists.

As a team, the Wildcats finished with seven 3-pointers.

Next up, the Ferndale girls will play at the Trinity tournament, which tips off on Thursday.
