By Ray Hamill — Several H-DNL football players feature at or near the top in multiple statistical categories in the North Coast Section this year.

Most notably, McKinleyville’s Payton Harbin leads the section in interceptions and Del Norte’s Daniel Gonzalez is second in PAT success.

It should be note that not every team in the section records their players’ statistics, but these are notable achievements nonetheless.

Harbin has been a ball hawk at DB for the Little 4 champions, coming away with eight interceptions for the season, almost one a game and two more than any other player.

Del Norte’s Ethan Thomas and Ferndale’s Isaak Kasso also have been ball hawks for their teams.

Thomas is fourth in the section with five picks, while Kasso is seventh with four, although the latter got his in just seven games.

The sure-footed Gonzalez, meanwhile, is second in the entire section in PAT percentage, nailing 44 of his 46 attempts for a .957 success rate.

Arcata’s Cedar Birdsall also features among the section statistical leaders and is seventh in the NCS with 86 tackles.

The H-DNL players have also fared well at kick returns.

Del Norte’s Aden Mintonye is fifth in punt returns with a 28.33 average, while St. Bernard’s Tyler Dimmick is sixth best in kickoff returns with a 34.38 average.

Several other H-DNL players feature just outside the top 10 in various other categories.

St. Bernard’s defensive end Wyatt Simoni is 11th in the section with seven sacks, while Kasso is 12th in punt returns with a 19.33 average.

Arcata running back Wilson Medina is also enjoying an outstanding season carrying the ball and is 13th in rushing yards with 918, while Del Norte’s Giancarlo Desolenni is 13th in touchdowns with 15 on the season.

And rounding out an impressive list, St. Bernard’s quarterback Drew Sisemore is 14th in the NCS in passing yards with 1,738.
