Jacks get set for the playoffs in men’s rugby

The Jacks came into the new rugby season with high hopes and they have not disappointed so far.

The Cal Poly Humboldt men closed out s short regular season with a fourth win in four games on Saturday and their third shutout.

The Jacks will now turn their attention to the National College Rugby Small Schools playoffs with eyes on winning a national championship.

They expect to receive a No. 1 seed for the upcoming regional tournament in Salt Lake City, where they need to win two games to advance to the national tournament.

After opening the season with a 33-0 win over Cal Maritime at the Redwood Bowl, Humboldt got the better of Sonoma State 28-0 and Oregon State 24-9.

The Division-I program is the only team to have scored on the Jacks this fall.

Cal Poly closed out the regular season with a dominating 102-0 win over Cal State Monterey Bay at College Creek Field on Saturday.

The home team celebrated Senior Day with 16 tries and 11 conversions, with starting several backups for the game.
