
College of the Redwoods Athletics/File photo – The CR women’s followed up their recent conference championship with a fourth-place finish at this past weekend’s NorCal championships in Fortuna.
The College of the Redwoods women’s cross country team had its best ever showing at the NorCal championships over the weekend, placing fourth as a team and advancing to next week’s state championships.
The event was hosted by CR for the first time in a quarter century and held at Rohner Park in Fortuna, with the host school certainly enjoying the occasion.
CR sophomore Hannah Hartwell continued her remarkable season and and took first overall, outpacing the field by almost a minute over the 5K course.
Hartwell was one of three CR women to place in the top 24 as the Corsairs scored 116 points to tie with Hartnell College for fourth, trailing only Clovis (49), De Anza (89) and Sequoias (112).
Hartwell had a winning time of 19 minutes, 52 seconds, which was well ahead of second-placed Ashley Ochoa of Hartnell (20:50).
CR’s Kristin Bonomini (22:40) was 17th overall, with teammate Maggie Stacy (23:24) in 24th, followed by Chloe Allen in 37th and Deborah Wells in 54th.
In the men’s race, CR’s top finisher Sean Dugdale also advances to the state meet, which will be held in Fresno.
Dugdale ran the men’s four-mile course in a time of 24:04 and placed 44th overall.
