The Del Norte Warriors stretched their unbeaten streak to seven straight games with a 2-0 victory at South Fork on Tuesday.

The win lifts the Warriors to 4-2-3 in the Little 4 and they could finish in a tie for second place if St. Bernard’s can beat Ferndale on Wednesday afternoon.

Regardless of that result, it has been a breakout season for the Warriors, who switched to the Little 4 this season and have been far more competitive.

The Warriors, who are ranked No. 8 among North Coast Section Division-1 teams, according to MaxPreps, could also be in line for a playoff appearance.

The playoff field will be announced on Sunday, and if they qualify the Del Norte girls will carry plenty of confidence and momentum into the postseason.

A young team that features just two juniors and no seniors has enjoyed a memorable season under first-year head coach Cyndi Hansen.

“I couldn’t be prouder of these girls with their progress,” Hansen said. “And I am excited for them with the possibility for playoffs. A first in a long time for our girls program.”

Mayleah Jackson and Alexis Aguirre both scored in Tuesday’s win, with assists from Teexeeshe Scott and Chaney Schaad.

The shutout was the team’s fourth in six games.

Abigail Stevens also stepped up as the team’s only sub for the game and played “exceptionally,” according to the coach.

The defeat ends the season for an equally young South Fork team that featured mostly freshmen this year.

“We didn’t win a game, but we were competitive in all but one of our league games,” head coach Ann Constantino said. “And I’m very encouraged for next year.”

With so many freshmen playing every game, that exerience should stand to the South Fork girls in the coming years.

They bid farewell to three seniors on Tuesday, including standout striker Summer Contreras, the team’s only four-year starter.

Fellow seniors Olivia Perkins and Jalynn Worswick both had big games on Tuesday to cap impressive seasons for each.

Freshman goalkeeper Aurora Galaz also continued to impress and finished with nine saves, while juniors Caidence Young and Cloe McConnell both also played well.
