NCS VOLLEYBALL — Bubble teams qualify as playoff brackets set

Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Del Norte girls are seeded No. 6 for the Division-4 NCS playoffs.

By Ray Hamill — Six of the 10 H-DNL varsity volleyball teams have qualified for this year’s North Coast Section playoffs, which get under way this week.

The league will be represented in four of the six divisions, with two local teams that were on the bubble included.

Four of the six will travel for their opening midweek games, while Del Norte and St. Bernard’s will each host games after winning their respective leagues and receiving higher seeds than their opponents.

The Big 5 champion Warriors are seeded No. 6 in Division 4 and will host No. 11 Healdsburg on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

The Little 5 champion Crusaders, meanwhile, are seeded No. 8 in the Division-6 bracket and will host No. 9 Holy Names, also on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Neither the Eureka Loggers nor the Hoopa Warriors were certain of qualifying heading into Sunday’s seedings meeting, but both made the grade.

The Loggers are seeded No. 13 in Division 3 and will look to upset No. 4 Archie Williams in Marin County on Tuesday night at 7.

The Hoopa girls will also play on Tuesday night.

The Warriors are seeded No. 15 in Division 5 and will play at No. 2 Clear Lake.

The Arcata girls also qualified in Division 4, and the No. 10 seeds will open at No. 7 St. Patrick-St. Vincent in Vallejo on Wednesday night at 7.

And rounding out the local contingent are the Ferndale Wildcats, who are seeded No. 10 in Division 6 and will play at No. 7 Anderson Valley on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
