HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL — What’s next for the H-DNL teams

Ray Hamill/ The Eureka Loggers will play at Ukiah on Friday.

By Ray Hamill — The Eureka Loggers will return to action this week when they travel to play Ukiah on Friday night at 7 p.m.

The Loggers kicked off the new season in impressive fashion when they shut out Arcata 30-0 on opening night, before enjoying a bye this past weekend.

Eureka is one of eight H-DNL varsity teams that will be in action this coming weekend, with St. Bernard’s (1-1) the only local team with a bye.

The Del Norte Warriors will try to keep their dominating start to the season going on Friday night when they travel for a second straight road game, this time at South Medford.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The 2-0 Warriors have outscored their first two opponents 98-0 in the first half of their games, but they will likely face much bigger challenge against a South Medford team that is 1-0 after a 41-0 win over Beaverton this past weekend.

The McKinleyville Panthers will also try to keep their impressive start to the season going when they travel to play Willits on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Panthers comprehensively defeated Anderson 40-0 over the weekend, while Willits is now 2-0.

Also on Friday night, the Fortuna Huskies will try to build on last week’s big defensive performance when they travel to play Kelseyville on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Huskies are 0-2 after falling 6-0 at Justin-Siena over the weekend, while Kelseyville is 0-1 after losing at Del Norte on opening weekend.

The Hoopa Warriors, meanwhile, will try to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss at St. Bernard’s when they travel to play Fort Bragg on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

This will be the third straight road game for the Warriors, who have impressed early in the season and are 1-1.

Fort Bragg is 1-0 after a 37-0 win at Healdsburg 10 days ago.

Rounding out a busy Friday night for the H-DNL teams, the South Fork Cubs (0-2) will return to eight-man football when they travel to play Laytonville (0-0) at 7 p.m.

Two local varsity teams will be in action on Saturday.

The Ferndale Wildcats (1-1) will try to carry the momentum from a weekend win at South Fork when they play Clear Lake (1-0) in their home opener at 2 p.m.

On Saturday evening, the Arcata Tigers (0-2) will play at Florin High (0-3) in Sacramento at 5 p.m.
