Local pitchers lead the way as Crabs continue to cruise

Humboldt Crabs Baseball – Saturday was Harry Potter Night at the Arcata Ball Park.

Four former H-DNL pitchers helped lead the Humboldt Crabs to two more wins on Saturday and Sunday, as the the local club remained red hot.

The Crabs swept a three-game weekend series from Seals Baseball, winning 14-0 on Saturday and night and 22-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Caleb Ruiz got the win on the mound on Sunday, improving to 7-0 on the summer.

The St. Bernard’s graduate pitched five hitless innings, allowing no walks and striking out six.

Eureka’s Hayden Bode threw two strong innings in relief, allowing one hit and no walks and striking out two.

The two pitchers got plenty of offensive support, with the Crabs scoring their 22 runs on 21 hits.

Tyler Davis led the way at the plate and finished 5-for-6 with two doubles, while Kevin Fitzer was 4-for-5 with a home run and seven RBIs.

Aaron Perez also hit a home run, while Eureka’s Jackson Giacone and McKinleyville’s Cameron Saso each had two hits, including a double.

The Crabs opened up a 12-run lead after three innings and never looked back.

Saturday’s game was close early on, but the Crabs broke the deadlock with four runs in the fourth and gradually pulled away after that.

Nick Perryman pitched six strong innings for the win, allowing four hits and striking out 10, with St. Bernard’s graduate Garrison Finck and Saso both pitching well in relief.

Finck threw two hitless innings and did not allow any walks while striking out four.

Saso struck out two in one hitless inning to close out the game.

Fitzer and Javier Felix each had three hits in the win, including a home run by Fitzer.

The Crabs, who have won eight straight and lost just twice in their last 25 games, are now 31-10.

They have two more series at the Arcata Ball Park this week to close out the season and open a two-game midweek stand against the Fresno A’s on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
