Big weekend for local players as Crabs sweep Fairfield

Nick Perryman and Garrison Finck combined to pitch a no-hitter on Saturday night, as the Humboldt Crabs swept a weekend series against the Fairfield Indians at the Arcata Ball Park.

Finck, one of six local players on this year’s Crabs team, had his best outing of the season and pitched four strong innings in relief in a 15-0 win.

The former St. Bernard’s Crusader didn’t allow a hit or a walk and struck out seven.

Perryman got the start and the win, as the Crabs exploded for 12 runs in the opening two innings.

He walked four and struck out seven.

Nick Leehey led the way at the plate and finished 4-for-5 with three doubles and four RBIs.

Aaron Perez also had a huge game at the plate and hit a home run and a double, while McKinleyville’s Cameron Saso was 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs.

The Crabs also won 6-3 on Sunday to complete the three-game weekend sweep.

Caleb Ruiz got his sixth victory of the season on the mound and has yet to lose.

The former St. Bernard’s Crusader pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and two walks and striking out seven.

Another local player, Eureka’s Jackson Giacone, led the way at the plate and finished 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run.

The Crabs overcame an early 3-1 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the second, and they would hold the visitors scoreless the rest of the way.

The Crabs, who improved to 26-10 on the summer, have won 18 of their past 20 games.

Next up, they welcome TKB baseball to the Arcata Ball Park for a two-game series beginning on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
