Gorge leads Eagles to doubleheader sweep on return from injury

Alex Gorge returned to action with a bang on Thursday and played a pivotal role in a doubleheader sweep for the Humboldt Eagles 19Us.

The recent Arcata High graduate has been out of action with a hand injury since the final game of the high school season, but he made his season debut with the Eagles in a pair of close road game at Trinity, which the Eagles won 4-2 and 8-7.

Gorge drove in the winning runs in both games.

He hit a key two-RBI single to right field in game one, while teammate Jared Dixon finished 2-for-3 with a double and Vince Agliolo was 2-for-4 with a double.

Cayden Lee was 1-for-3 with a double, while Regan Nyberg finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Jeran Ford pitched 3.2 innings of one-hit ball for the win on the mound, with Matt Letter throwing the final 3.1 innings and striking out five for the save.

Joey Quen threw two scoreless signings in relief for the win in game two.

Trailing 7-5 in the top of the seventh, Letter led off the inning with a home run to left field, before Dixon singled and Regan Nyberg was hit by a pitch.

Rylan Lommori then laid down a perfect bunt to advance both runners, before Gorge delivered a single up the middle to score both runners and give the Eagles the lead.

Agliolo finished 2-for-3 with two doubles; Letter was 2-for-3 with the home run and an RBI; Lommori was 2-for-2 with an RBI; Gorge was 2-for-4 with two RBIs; and Mason Nichols was 2-for-3 with a double.

The Eagles, who have won the opening four games of their current road trip, are now 15-6.
