By Ray Hamill — The Humboldt Crabs players will begin arriving in town over the next few days, with the season set to begin on Friday night.

Manager Robin Guiver will hold the first team practice on Wednesday evening and says he is expecting around 22 players for opening weekend.

That should include a large contingent of local players, with six former H-DNL standouts on the 2022 roster, most of whom should be here in time for Friday’s game.

And Guiver is expecting a competitive summer, with a number of tough opponents on the schedule.

“I think the whole summer is going to be really good, and the first month especially,” he said. “We’re going to have our hands full, which should be fun.”

The Crabs open the summer with an all-local matchup against the Humboldt Eagles at 7 p.m. and will host the Alameda Cardinals on Saturday and Sunday.

The team will follow that with an early-season road trip to Medford next week for a pair of midweek games against the Rogues, before returning to the Arcata Ball Park for what should be a challenging weekend series against the San Luis Obispo Blues.
