Panthers win two at Fortuna to close out league play

Branson Dobrec led the way at the plate and on the mound as the McKinleyville Panthers closed out the Big 5 with an impressive doubleheader sweep at Fortuna on Tuesday.

Dobrec finished 3-for-4 with a double in a 5-4 win in game one, and pitched seven strong innings in a 10-5 win in game two.

Dobrec allowed eight hits and one walk in the win, while striking out three.

McKinleyville’s Brodie Sargent and Jack Saso each also had two hits in the nightcap, while Tyson Bragg hit a home run.

Brayden Craven pitched 4.2 innings for the win in game one, allowing eight hits and two walks, with Evan Fraser strong in relief and allowing just one hit in the final 2.1 innings.

Cody Lackey was 2-for-4 in the win, as the Panthers closed out league play 4-8 and improved to 11-13 overall.

Cole Ayala had a big day at the plate for Fortuna, finishing 5-for-7 over the two games with four doubles, while Daniel Osborne had three hits on the day, including a double in game two.

Fortuna closed out the Big 5 with a record of 5-7 and is now 12-10 overall.
