By Ray Hamill — The Del Norte Warriors have finalized the 2022 football schedule, which will officially kick off in 115 days.
The Warriors will open the new season at home to Kelseyville under the Friday night lights on August 26, and the schedule features a nice balance, including five home games and five on the road.
“I think it’s a good mix of games for us,” head coach Nick White said. “We’ve got a couple of smaller schools and a couple of big schools that will be a good test.”
White and his assistant coaches have built a powerhouse program that should compete for a section championship once again in 2022 after falling to San Marin in this past season’s Division-5 championship game.
The upcoming schedule also features five games against H-DNL teams, including an intriguing home-and-away series with the Eureka Loggers.
The Warriors will play the Loggers in a non-league home game on Sept. 30, one week after a trip to play McKinleyville.
After opening the season at Kelseyville, the Del Norte players will have an overnight trip to the Bay Area to play Piedmont on Sept. 2.
The following week, they head to Oregon to play South Medford, before hosting West Valley one week later.
After the matchups against Mack and Eureka, the Warriors will host Stellar Prep in their final pre-league game on Oct. 6, and they will then have a bye before opening league play in late October.
After featuring a six-week format last fall, the Big 4 will go back to a three-week format in 2022, and the Warriors will play road games at Eureka (Oct. 21) and St. Bernard’s (Oct. 29), and a home contest to close out the regular season against Fortuna on Nov. 4.
The North Coast Section playoffs will get under way on the weekend of Nov. 11/12 and will run for three weeks.
