The St. Bernard’s seniors are stepping up late in the season and it’s having an impact for the Crusaders, who swept two softball games against Ferndale on Tuesday, winning 14-0 and 17-5.
The senior trio of Courteney Goodman, Emma Wilson and Teressa Riley were instrumental in the two wins, as the Crusaders have now won three straight and improved to 5-3 in the Little 4 and 7-10 overall.
Goodman was a consistent bat at the plate all day and finished 8-for-9, while Wilson provided the offensive highlight of the day with a grand slam in game two, and Riley had two hits in each game.
“Our seniors have been stepping up and having good plate appearances and providing leadership to our younger players,” assistant coach Brian Finck said. “I couldn’t be more proud of this senior class.”
Some of the juniors also had big days, including Ella Jimenez and Torrin Baty, who got the wins in the pitcher’s circle.
Jimenez also had three hits in game one and Baty had two.
Kodi Meyer, Marce Davila and Aubree Saunderson each also had a hit in game one.
The Crusaders will play a key doubleheader at Hoopa on Wednesday afternoon.
