BIG 5 SOFTBALL — Loggers remain on track; Warriors win big

File photo – The Eureka Loggers improved to 6-1 in the Big 5 with a victory at Fortuna on Wednesday.

The Eureka Loggers opened a three-game series against the Huskies with an 8-5 win at Fortuna on Wednesday to keep their championship ambitions on track.

Kira Morris was instrumental once again, just one day after pitching a no-hitter at Del Norte.

The junior pitcher struck out nine for the win in the circle and also finished 3-for-3 at the plate with a two-run home run and four RBIs.

Kaitlin Giacone also continued to impress and was 2-for-4 with a triple, while McKenna Beach and Payton Goodman each had two hits.

With the win, the Loggers improved to 6-1 in the Big 5 and 17-1 overall.

They will play two more games against Fortuna this weekend, before closing out league play with three games against Arcata next week.

Zoe Dewberry had a good day at the plate for Fortuna and finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Kelsie Hall was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs.

Kadence Mace also had a good day and was 2-for-4 with a triple, while Catherine Duncan, Myra Hayes and Mariah Smith each added. hit.

The Huskies dropped to 2-5 in the Big 5 and 11-7 overall.

Del Norte 17, Arcata 2

The Warriors bounced back from Tuesday’s loss to Eureka with a comprehensive win at Arcata on Wednesday.

McKenna Curtis pitched a one-hitter for the win and struck out nine in four innings before Shay Nolan closed out the game.

Both pitchers got plenty of run support, with the Warriors offense scoring 17 runs on 17 hits.

Lexi Heuberger had a huge day at the plate and finished 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBIs, while also reaching base on a hit-by-pitch.

Audrey Phillps was equally impressive and finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs and also reached base on a hit-by-pitch.

Josephine Heuberger, Ava O’Reilley and Reece White each also had two hits in the win, as the Warriors improved to 5-5 in the Big 5 and 12-8 overall.

Arcata dropped to 1-6 and 4-8.
