The Oklahoma Sooners finally met their match.

On Saturday, Texas senior Hailey Dolcini held the high-flying Sooners to just two hits in a 4-2 win, as the No. 1 team in the nation lost for the first time this season and saw a 40-game winning streak end.

The Ferndale native pitched all seven innings against the defending NCAA champions and gave up just two seventh-inning runs, while striking out three and walking no one.

The four-time Big 5 MVP, who transferred to Texas from Fresno State this year for her “super senior” season, improved to 14-5 with the win after dropping a close decision to the Sooners in the series opener on Thursday.

In her two appearances against the nation’s No. 1 team, she allowed just five hits in 14 innings and actually saw her ERA drop from 2.43 to 2.37.

With Dolcini in commanding form, the Longhorns broke the deadlock in the bottom of the fifth inning and added three more runs in the sixth for a 4-0 advantage going into the final inning.

And that would prove to be enough for the former Fortuna Husky and her defense.

Texas came into this week’s three-game series as the No. 18 team in the country, but dropped the first two games.

Saturday’s win was Dolcini’s third over a trop-25 team this season, having also defeated No. 20 LSU and No. 23 Louisiana.

On Thursday. Dolcini was also named as a finalist for the prestigious 2022 Softball Senior CLASS Award.
