The College of the Redwoods softball team hosted the No. 1 team in the state on Thursday, losing both ends of a doubleheader to Butte, 17-4 and 12-0.

The CR women matched up well against the Roadrunners early in both games and even led in game one, but a talented Butte lineup was able to pull away in each.

“We did a good job executing plays and getting runners on,” said CR head coach Megan Valente, who added “Our defense had some big plays.”

Particularly shortstop Sadie Hampton, who continues to impress, as well as catcher Nas-Che-Wen Hunsucker.

Hampton also had a big impact at the plate and had hits in both games, finishing the day 3-for-5 with a double and two runs.

Samantha Caughie and Brooke Faraimo each also doubled in game one, as well as scoring a run and driving in another.

Kyla Pontoni and Ashley Pierce each added a hit in game two, while Faraimo and Kathryce Danzuka took the losses in the pitcher’s circle.

CR is now 3-12 in the Golden Valley Conference and 5-23-1 overall, while Butte remains perfect in conference at 18-0 and is 34-1 overall.

Next up, CR hosts Shasta College in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
