South Fork senior Olivia Ward hit a walk-off double on Saturday, as the Cubs swept a Little 4 doubleheader from St. Bernard’s.
Ward’s big blast plated both the trying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh and lifted the South Fork girls to an 8-7 win.
The Cubs, who also won 12-8 earlier in the day, improved to 2-2 in league play.
Ward finished game two 3-4, with two doubles and a run.
Junior Summer Contreras had a big day at the plate and in the pitcher’s circle.
In game two, Contreras struck out nine in 5.2 innings and was 3-for-4 with a walk and a run.
Freshman Shawnessy Conway-O’Neill pitched the final 1.1 innings for the win and also was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs, while senior catcher Lily Carr was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs.
Conway-O’Neill also got the win in the opener, striking out five in 5.1 innings and finishing 2-for-3 at the plate.
Contreras struck out four in 1.2 innings for the save and finished 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles and a pair of runs, giving her six base hits on the day.
