A couple of young players stepped up for the Arcata Tigers on Saturday, as they split a Big 5 softball doubleheader at Fortuna.

Sophomore Lexi Alto hit her first career home run in a 7-2 win in the opener, one of two home runs for her team in the win.

Junior standout Sagen Sarchett also hit one out of the park, her team-leading fourth of the season.

The Huskies, however, would respond by taking game two 21-9 in five innings, their second win over Arcata in a three-game series last week after also winning an exciting Wednesday showdown 5-4.

With the Saturday split, the Huskies are now 2-4 in the Big 5 and 11-5 overall, while the Tigers are 1-2 and 4-4.

Arcata freshman Jenna Renteria also had a memorable day, hitting her first high school base hit with a well-hit triple to right field.

Junior pitcher Morgan Ford also continued to impress in the circle, turning in another strong performance for the win in game one.

“We played good in the first game,” Arcata head coach Steve Sarchett said. “Game two was a story of pitching and Fortuna flat beat us.”
