The Fortuna bats came alive in game two of a Big 5 softball doubleheader on Saturday, as the Huskies bounced back from a morning loss to split with the Arcata Tigers at Fortuna.
The Tigers won game one 7-2, with the Huskies taking game two 21-9 in five innings in the afternoon series decider.
The Huskies, who won the series opener at Arcata High on Wednesday, improved top 2-1 in the Big 5 and 11-5 overall, while Tigers are now 1-2 and 4-4.
Lexie Alto and Sagen Sarchett each hit home runs for Arcata in the opener, while teammate Morgan Ford shut down the Fortuna bats through the first five innings on her way to the victory in the circle.
Playing in extremely windy conditions, the two teams combined for 30 runs on 32 hits in just four and a half innings in game two.
They also combined for 11 errors, with the conditions causing a lot of problems on pop ups and fly balls.
Fortuna scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning to quickly take control, although the Tigers battled back to pull within four in the fourth, before the home team put up eight more runs in the bottom half of the inning on the way to ending the game early.
Fortuna freshman Mariah Bravo was instrumental in the win and had had a huge game at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Teammate Libby Johnston also had a huge game and was 4-for-5 with an inside-the-park home run and four RBIs.
Zoe Dewberry and Mariah Smith both added two hits, including a double each, as well as four RBIs.
Kelsi Hall added three hits, including two doubles, while Kadence Mace and Faith Helms each had a double and Kylee Fennell had two hits.
