McKinleyville junior Soffia Reyes continued to rewrite the school record books in track and field on Saturday, setting new all-time marks in two different events at the Chico Invite.
The speedy Reyes ran a sub-minute for the first time ever in the 400 meters and finished in a time of 59.3, breaking her own school record of 1 minute, .03 seconds, which she had set earlier in the season.
She also set a new school record in the 200m, finishing in 25.5 seconds.
“She ran a smart race,” head coach Rudy Garcia said. “She was aggressive and brought it home pretty awesomely.”
Even more impressively, she did it in extremely windy conditions.
Reyes won both events and also was a part of the Panthers 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams, which each placed second in their races.
Fellow Panther Kathryn Tinney also had a memorable day with a PR in the 100m hurdles on the way to a second place finish.
