The St. Bernard’s Crusaders reached the championship game at the Wolves Classic in Arizona on Saturday, falling 15-1 to undefeated Cathedral Prep out of Pennsylvania.
Earlier on Saturday, the Crusaders won their third straight game in tournament play, defeating Show Lo High School 11-6.
Cayden Lee had a huge game at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with two doubles, as the Crusaders came out firing and scored five runs in the first inning.
Nick Dugan also had a big game and was 3-for-3 with two doubles, while Drew Vizenor was 3-for-3 with a double.
Brody Tomlin pithed 4.1 innings for the win.
The championship game, however, was a different story against the two-time defending Pennsylvania state champions and a team that features eight Division-I commits.
“Every guy was a Nick Dugan on their team,” SB head coach Matt Tomlin said of Cathedral Prep, which won all their games at the tournament on the 10-run rule.
Overall, it was a good experience for the Crusaders who closed out out the competitive tournament 3-1.
“We gained a lot from this trip,” Matt Tomlin said. “We really came together as a team. After the last couple of years, with COVID and everything, it was really nice to have a trip like this.”
The Crusaders are now 10-3 on the season.
