Arcata’s Jaden Gorge was instrumental in leading Shasta College to a series win over College of the Redwoods in baseball over the weekend.
The Knights dropped the opener 26-9 on Friday, but battled back to sweep a doubleheader on Saturday, winning 3-2 and 13-1, with Gorge playing a key role.
The 2019 Arcata High graduate drove in what would be the game-winning run in Saturday’s opener, breaking a 1-1 tie with a two-RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth.
The base hit gave the Knights a lead they would hold, and they followed that with a dominating offensive performance in the nightcap.
Gorge has appeared in 23 games this season for the 9-17 Knights and is batting .266 with 15 RBIs and 14 runs.
He also scored twice in the 13-1 win and hit successfully in all three weekend games.
The series win lifts the Knights above CR in the Golden Valley Conference standings.
CR dropped to 3-9 in conference and 9-16 overall, while Shasta is now 4-9 in conference.
Gorge and the Knights will play three games in Eureka on April 27 and 28.
