Former St. Bernard’s pitcher Garrison Finck got his first win of the season on the mound for Cal State East Bay over the weekend in his first-ever start for the Division-II team.
The 2018 Crusaders graduate is a freshman for the Pioneers and made six appearances out of the bullpen this season before getting the start against San Francisco State on Saturday.
And Finck did not disappoint, tossing a complete-game seven innings in a 5-2 win, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and one walk and striking out three.

The Pioneers struck early to give Finck a five-run cushion after two innings and that was all the former Crusader would need.
The win was the second of his collegiate career and his first since February 11, 2020.
Finck is still a freshman after red-shirting in 2019 and playing just four games a year later, before the 2020 and 2021 seasons were canceled.
For the season, Finck has pitched 15.1 innings and has an ERA of 4.11 with 11 strikeouts and just one walk.
The Pioneers split the four-game weekend series and are now 12-14 on the season and 5-11 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
