The Fortuna Huskies bounced back from a pair of Friday losses to defeat South Fork 11-3 at the St. Bernard’s baseball tournament on Saturday.
The Fortuna boys scored six runs in the first inning to take control of the game, and they took advantage of a balanced offensive performance with with nine players combining for 10 hits.
Tyler Schlesiger continued to hit the ball well and finished 1-for-1 with a home run for the second straight day, while Rylan Lommori finished 2-for-4 with a double and was named to the all-tourney team.
“A lot of guys are hitting the ball well right now,” head coach Andy Olsen said.
Cody Collins pitched two scoreless innings for the win on the mound, striking out four and allowing just one hit, before Cole Victorine came in and threw three strong innings in relief.
The Huskies, who improved to 6-2 on the season, also brought up two JV players for the game — Kellen Barrott and Chad Mussey — and both had an impact, with Barrott finishing 1-for-2.
Cole Ayala added a double, while Collins, Matt Letter, Rogan Gans, Troy Bugbee and Cody Sauers each also had a base hit.
Sauers also played well at first base.
Next up, the Huskies will host Hoopa on Tuesday afternoon, before opening the Big 5 the following week.
