UPDATED after Friday’s games …

By Ray Hamill — With the H-DNL schedule concluding this week, next week’s Dick Niclai tournament schedules are starting to take shape.

The girls tournament gets under way with first-round games on Monday, while the boys tip off on Tuesday, and all four No. 1 seeds will have a bye until the semifinal rounds on Wednesday and Thursday.

Eureka and Ferndale are the No. 1 seeds for the girls, while Arcata and South Fork are the No. 1 seeds for the boys, after all four were crowned outright league champs.

In girls action on Monday, No. 3 Hoopa will travel to play No. 2 St. Bernard’s, while No. 2 Arcata will host either McKinleyville or Fortuna, who will face off in a play-in game at McKinleyville High at 7 p.m. on Saturday after both teams finished tied in league play with records of 3-5.

The Panthers get home court courtesy of a coin flip.

On Wednesday, the winner of the SB/Hoopa game will play at Eureka, with a championship berth on the line, while the winner of Monday’s game at Arcata will play at Ferndale.

In boys action, on Tuesday night the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds in both the Little 4 and Big 5 will face off.

McKinleyville and Del Norte will play each other in the opening round in Crescent City after they finished league in a tie for second.

The Warriors receive the No. 2 seed and home advantage courtesy of a coin flip.

In the Little 4, No. 2 St. Bernard’s will host No. 3 Hoopa.

Jack Clancy and the McKinleyville boys will find out their first-round Niclai opponent and venue this weekend.

The boys semifinals will take place on Thursday at the No. 1 seeds.

All Niclai games are scheduled for 7 p.m.

This year’s championship games will take place on Friday night and will be hosted by the highest remaining seeds and not at Lumberjack Arena.

If two No. 1 seeds qualify for either of the championship games, the venue will be decided on head-to-head records from this season, or, if still tied, it will go to a coin flip.

Only H-DNL, NCS and CIF passes will be permitted (no school passes) at the Niclai games and admission prices will be the same as for regular season games.

The H-DNL also wants to remind people that four spectators will be allowed per competitor and masks will be required by all spectators.
