BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP — Huskies, Warriors and Crusaders all win midweek games

The Fortuna, Del Norte and St. Bernard’s boys all won in basketball on Wednesday night as they continue their preparation for the upcoming league campaign.

Fortuna defeated Marin Academy 68-60 and improved to 6-5 on the season.

The Huskies came out strong and led by 13 at halftime, before the Wildcats rallied to take a third-quarter lead.

The Huskies, however, closed out the period strong to open up a 12-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter and they were able to hold on down the stretch thanks to some clutch free-throw shooting by Alfonso Medina, Russell Pascascio and Jordin Bourne.

Medina continued to impress and finished with 28 points, while Bourne added 18 points and Pascascio 12.

The Fortuna JVs also won on Wednesday, defeating Marin Academy 70-63.

St. Bernard’s 57, Berean Christian 45

The Crusaders kept their unbeaten start to the season going with a semifinal victory over the home team at the Berean Christian tournament on Wednesday night.

Owen Shanahan had a big night in the win, finishing with 13 points and dishing out around 17 assists, according to head coach Issac Gildea.

“He was just picking apart the defense,” Gildea said. “Every pass was just precise. Whenever he touched the ball, it was the right pass. He was our X factor tonight.”

Seth Dyer also continued to impress and finished with 15 points, all of them on five first-half 3-pointers as the Crusaders set the tone early and opened up a 39-22 lead by halftime.

Drew Vizenor also is enjoying a good tournament and scored eight points in the win, just one day after finishing with 35 points in the team’s tourney opener.

Aidan Dorsch chipped in eight points and Aaiden Burris finished with seven points.

With the win, the Crusaders improved to 8-0.

They will play for the tournament championship on Thursday.
