GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP — Poteet debuts with Eureka; Panthers win at Ukiah

Photos by Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – Sophomore Isis Poteet made her debut for the Loggers on Wednesday against her former team.

The McKinleyville girls had a big second half on the way to an impressive 45-42 win at Ukiah on Wednesday night, while the Eureka girls were unable to contain Grants Pass down the stretch in a 50-42 loss at home.

The Panthers overcame a nine-point halftime deficit with a 14-0 third quarter and held on late for the win.

Morgan Stubbs was instrumental in the victory with a big second half, scoring 10 of her team-high 13 points after the interval.

Camryn Pinard also picked up her game in the second half, scoring 10 of her 11 points in the final two quarters.

Raina Ausburn chipped in nine points and the ever-consistent Kathryn Tinney finished with eight points, five of them in the fourth quarter.

With the win, the Panthers improved to 4-6.

Grants Pass 50, Eureka 42

Transfer sophomore Isis Poteet made her Eureka debut against her old school on Wednesday and had an immediate impact, finishing with eight points.

The Loggers, however, were unable to hold onto a six-point halftime lead and were outscored 35-21 over the final two quarters.

Payton Goodman scored a team-high nine points in the loss, while Aniah Gaither chipped in seven points.

With the loss, the Eureka girls dropped to 9-4.

Kira Morris, Amaya Gee and McKenna Beach each scored six in the loss.
