A pair of sophomores stepped up big for the Arcata girls on Friday night in a 58-49 loss to Enterprise at the Red Bluff tournament.

Nora Talty and Alia Prentiss led the Tigers offensively in the team’s best performance of the young season.

Unfortunately, however, the Arcata girls had no answer for dominating Enterprise senior Abigail Shoff, who finished with 38 points.

Shoff scored 24 of her team’s 26 second-half points and continually gave the Enterprise girls a lift every time the Tigers made a run.

“We had no answer for her,” Arcata head coach Doug Oliveira said.

With Shoff in foul trouble late in the game, the Tigers cut the deficit to two points with 90 second remaining, but once again the senior standout came off the bench to save her team and secure the win.

“Overall, I thought we played the best game we’ve played all year tonight,” Oliveira said.

Talty and Prentiss are both enjoying breakout seasons for the Tigers and they finished with 17 points and 15 points, respectively.

Grace Talty also had a big night and finished with eight points.

The Tigers, who dropped to 5-3, will continue tourney play against University Prep on Saturday at 1 p.m.
