Eureka boys drop tourney opener against Whitney

The Eureka boys were outmatched by a quality Whitney team in basketball on Wednesday night, falling 81-44 in their NorCal Tip-Off Tournament opener in Rocklin.

Hans Chalmers scored 24 points to lead the Loggers, while teammate Jordan Urban added seven and Makai Boults six.

With the loss, the Loggers are now 1-2 on the season.

“They were a talented team and they were well coached for sure,” Eureka assistant coach Andrew Dehart said of Whitney, which is the host school at the tournament.

The Eureka coaches, however, were more than happy with their players’ effort.

“We had a little bit of pressure with their full-court pressure, but they never quit, they never gave up,” Dehart said of his players. “They never faltered and they stuck to our game plan.”

The Loggers will continue tournament play against Fortune Early College High on Thursday evening at 5 p.m.
