POWER RANKINGS — Is the gap at the top widening?

By Ray Hamill — The Del Norte Warriors have left little doubt as to who has the best team on the North Coast this season.

And as the schedule begins to wind down, the only question now is how far can they go in the playoffs.

The good news for the Warriors is they are getting better and are firing on all cylinders right now, with no noticeable flaws in how they go about their business.

Get set for what should be a fun postseason in Crescent City.

St. Bernard’s, meanwhile, has been almost as as impressive and is clearly the second best team in the H-DNL this season.

A physical Crusaders team has not only matched up well against the bigger schools in their conference, but they’ve dominated some of them, securing the season sweep over Eureka last weekend.

The Loggers and Huskies both continue to struggle for a variety of reasons and both have been clearly outmatched in conference play.

Arcata, meanwhile, continues to win, albeit in the Little 4, which begs the question, could the Tigers beat Eureka or Fortuna right now?

An honorable mention goes out to Hoopa this week, after the Warriors posted back-to-back shutouts on the way to turning their season around.

POWER RANKINGS

1 — Del Norte (5-0 in conference, 7-1 overall)

The Warriors are unstoppable in the Big 4 right now.

2 — St. Bernard’s (3-2, 5-4)

The Crusaders should have at least one home playoff game.

3T — Arcata (5-0, 7-2)

Seven straight wins for the Tigers, who have comfortably taken care of business in the L4.

3T — Eureka (1-4, 2-6)

Whether they win or lose at Del Norte this weekend, I expect the Loggers to come out with something to prove.

5 — Fortuna (1-4, 4-5)

The Huskies have lost four straight games, although three of them have come against Del Norte and SB.
