COLLEGE SOCCER — HSU men fall just short; Barres heading to the playoffs

Humboldt old State Athletics – Dylan Tovani and the HSU men lost at Chico State on Thursday.

The Humboldt State men fell just short in their bid for a first-ever CCAA Tournament berth in soccer on Thursday, losing 1-0 at Chico State.

The Jacks went into the regular-season finale as one of three teams battling for the final two CCAA tourney spots, but the loss dropped them to seventh in the final standings, one place out of qualification.

HSU closes out conference play with a record of 4-5-2.

The Chico State women, meanwhile, defeated HSU 4-1 and finished second in the CCAA.

Former Eureka Logger Klayre Barres is a freshman with the Wildcats and has played in all 17 games for the team this season, while starting in 12 of them.

Barres and the Chico State women will now advance to next week’s six-team CCAA tournament.
