The Arcata Tigers honored their four senior stars before Wednesday’s regular-season finale in girls soccer, a class that has played a pivotal role in leading the program to a first league title in five years this season.

The seniors included twin sisters Annie and Tildy Macdonald, two of the most consistent players on the North Coast this fall, as well goalkeeper Seri Welsh and Sophia Pulley.

“They were huge,” Arcata head coach Patrick Stranahan said of the quartet. “They were keystones.”

At least two of the four — Tildy Macdonald and Welsh — have been playing at an MVP level for the Tigers, who clinched the Big 5 pennant over the weekend and have lost just once all season.

The Arcata girls have also been the top team in NCS fall soccer all season and will be considered one of the favorites heading into next week’s playoff tournament.

Tildy has been a force as a defensive midfielder, while Annie has seen her game continually improve on the wing as the season has progressed.

“And Seri has been amazing,” Stranahan said of the senior goalie, who was named Humboldt Sports Athlete of the Week last week. “Several people have said she should be the league MVP.”

Pulley also has played a major role for the team up front.
