After opening the new season with a couple of road victories, the Humboldt State men’s soccer team is now the highest ranked of all the California Collegiate Athletic Association teams.

This week, the Jacks are No. 5 in the latest United Soccer Coaches West Region Men’s Soccer Rankings.

Over the Labor Day weekend, they posted a 2-0 victory over Westminster (Utah) and a 4-0 victory over Northwest Nazarene, both in Salt Lake City.

HSU is one of five members of the CCAA included in this week’s West Region top-10, along with No. 6 Chico State, No. 7 Sonoma State, No. 8 Cal State Dominguez Hills, and No. 10 Cal State San Bernardino.

Azusa Pacific holds the top spot in this week’s rankings.

The West Region consists of schools from the CCAA, Great Northwest Athletic Conference and PacWest Conference.

The Jacks conclude a four-match road trip this weekend in Hayward, when they face Hawaii Pacific on Friday at 7 p.m., and Holy Names on Sunday at 2 pm.

The games will be streamed on www.ccaanetwork.com/HSU.

The HSU men will play their home opener on Friday of next week, when they host Simpson University at 3 p.m.
