Six days of horse racing planned for county fair

Horse racing is coming back to the North Coast, with the Humboldt County Fair set to make a welcome return later this month.

The fair was canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic, but but is scheduled to run this year from August 18-29, with six days of racing planned.

The horses will be in action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of each weekend, with the racing getting under way in the the afternoons.

The final day of racing will feature the annual Humboldt Marathon, which is the longest thoroughbred stakes event on the Northern California summer fair circuit.

This will be the 124th fair races, with races scheduled for thoroughbreds, quarter horses and Arabians.

The first day of racing will be Friday, August 20, with the opening race scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
