The Arcata Tigers won their sixth straight game in H-DNL boys basketball on Saturday, getting the better of St. Bernard’s 64-48.

Four different Arcata players scored in double digits to lead a balanced team performance, with three players missing for personal reasons.

The consistent Kai Purcell had a huge first half and scored a team-high 17 points in the win, while teammates Brandon Bento-Jackson, Mason Railsback and Marcus Bensen each scored 11.

“Our defense has been solid this year and today we were getting stops and getting into transition,” assistant coach Kellen Maynard said. “It was a total team effort.”

Aidan Atkins added seven points in the win and teammate Sam Trewartha scored six.

Lito Pabalate continued to impress for the Crusaders, who dropped their second straight game against Big 5 opponents and are now 3-3.

Pabalate scored a game-high 24 points while teammate Owen Shanahan added 15 points.

The Crusaders trailed by 20 early in the third quarter, before making a bit of a run to narrow the gap.

“Give St. Bernard’s some credit, they kind of flipped a switch and Lito and Shanahan went to work,” Maynard said.

With the win, the Tigers improved to 6-0 and they will host both McKinleyville and Fortuna to close out the season next week.
