The Arcata Tigers ended a four-game losing streak with a hard-fought 7-6 win at Del Norte in H-DNL softball on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Sagen Sarchett continued to lead the way at the plate with another strong performance, finishing 3-for-4 and driving in what turned out to be the winning run in the top of the sixth to give her team a 7-5 advantage.

The Warriors pulled within one run late, but that was as close as they would come.

Morgan Ford got the win in the circle against what Arcata head coach Teresa Wheat described as a “a very tough Del Norte squad.”

“As always I’m very proud of my (players),” Wheat said. “My girl’s have kept working hard every day.”

Senior Madison Haag led the Warriors at the plate, finishing 4-for-4, while junior shortstop Josephine Heuberger continued to excel both on defense and at the plate.

Heuberger finished 2-for-3 and was walked intentionally twice.

“Jo is such a great athlete, I knew if we pitched to her we were taking a chance,” Wheat said. “Both teams played hard. We are both young.”

With the win, the Tigers improved to 3-6, while Del Norte dropped to 2-8.

The two teams meet again in a doubleheader at Arcata on Saturday.
