College of the Redwoods Athletics – CR’s Karyn Jensen was 7-for-7 in a doubleheader against Shasta on Thursday.
The College of the Redwoods softball team enjoyed the comforts of home for the first time this season on Thursday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Shasta.
Karyn Jensen had a huge day at the plate, finishing 7-for-7 over the two games, as the Corsairs won 11-0 in five innings and 6-2.
The CR women, who have won three straight, are now 4-8 on the season.
Jensen was one of several players to have a big day and continues to be one of the team’s most consistent and dangerous players.
She finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs in the opener, and followed that by going 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the nightcap.
“They were all hard hit balls,” head coach Maggie White said. “Almost all of them were first pitches and line drives. She’s been very consistent all year, and she hits the ball hard at people.”
Makayla Bernald pitched the win in game one, her first of the season and the team’s first shutout.
Bernald allowed just three hits and six walks, while striking out eight, and she did it in misty, drizzly conditions.
“That’s not easy to pitch in,” White said. “I thought she pitched really well to have a shutout in that.”
In addition to Jensen, Sadie Wilkinson and Juliana Ortega-Miranda each had two hits, with Wilkinson driving in a pair of runs.
McKenna Turner also had a double and two RBIs, while Jaycee Morais, Grace Rosebrook and Nas‐Che‐Wen Hunsucker each also had a hit.
Game two was a closer affair, with the Corsairs opening up an early 4-1 lead and holding on after that.

Wilkinson capped a big day with three more hits and another RBI, while Samantha Caughie was an impressive 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
“She had a good game too,” White said of Caughie. “And those were pretty clutch hits. We won 6-2 and she had half our RBIs.”
Kylee Dewey got the win in the pitcher’s circle, her second of the season, with two strikeouts and three walks.
“Kylee was placing the ball where she wanted to,” White said.
Rosebrook had a double, while Morais, Ortega-Miranda, Turner and Hunsucker each also had a hit.
“I think we’re starting to come together,” White said. “I think we’re less nervous. I think at the beginning we were nevous, and they seem more relaxed now.”
The Corsairs play two games against Butte in Redding on Saturday.
