VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP — Tigers bounce back; Loggers keep rolling

Just one day after suffering their first loss of the season against Fortuna, the Arcata Tigers got some payback on Tuesday.

Playing the same team for the second time in two days, this time it was the Tigers who were victorious, winning 25-12, 22-25, 25-17, 25-18.

Avery Thornburgh continued to impress in the win, finishing with 10 kills, two aces  and three blocks, while teammate Ella Day had five kills and seven Aces.

Arcata’s Abby Costello-Anderson also had a big night with six kills, four aces and three blocks, while Lola Renteria finished with 31 assists, seven kills and an ace, and Lilly Rust-Kelley had 10 digs and a pair of aces.

Also for Arcata, Lila Wolf finished with three kills, eight digs and an ace, and Sydney Hasselquist had six kills.

With the win, the Tigers improved to 4-1.

Also on Tuesday night, the Eureka Loggers won for the fourth time in four games this season, getting the better of McKinleyville 25-14, 25-13, 28-26.

Sadie Hampton and Cambelle Suchanek each had big nights serving for the undefeated Eureka girls, with 13 points apiece.

Hampton also finished with five kills and Suchanek had eight assists, while teammate Mariah Napoleon had a team-high six kills.

Kira Morris finished with a team-high six aces, while Salina Socha-Wright had five aces and Madison Broese had a team-best 10 serve receptions and 33 digs.

Napoleon and Alley Williams each also had a block assist.

H-DNL volleyball continues on Thursday night when Eureka plays at Arcata and Fortuna plays at St. Bernard’s.
