By Ray Hamill — The Del Norte Warriors have been forced to pull out of their season opener in H-DNL football this coming weekend because of COVID protocols.
The players will be in quarantine and unable to practice until Wednesday of next week after one member of the team tested positive last week.
According to head coach Nick White, the Warriors have been following all protocols and he was surprised all of his players have been forced to quarantine.
“It’s just disbelief that they’ve quarantined the whole team,” he said. “I thought it would just be a few players. I don’t even know what to say. It was very surprising.”
With Del Norte and Hoopa unable to play in week one, the H-DNL has released an updated schedule, essentially switching week four with week one, with a few tweaks.
St. Bernard’s and Ferndale will get the weekend action started on Friday afternoon at 3:30 in Eureka.
On Friday night, Fortuna will play at McKinleyville and Arcata will play at South Fork.
On Saturday night, Eureka will play against the Huskies B team in Fortuna.
Del Norte’s first game is now scheduled for a week from Friday against Arcata at McKinleyville High.
It is likely, however, that game will get pushed back to Saturday night in order to allow the Warriors three days of practice that week instead of two, while switching Saturday’s scheduled game between Eureka and McKinleyville to Friday night.
Hoopa is unable to play on the opening two weekends after the Warriors were just cleared to begin practice this week.
