By Ray Hamill — The California Interscholastic Federation announced on Wednesday that student athletes will not be permitted to play in club sports while competing for their high schools.
The decision comes in the midst of the pandemic and, according to a press release from the CIF, was made to avoid being in conflict with state guidelines.
According to the latest state youth sports guidelines, “athletes and coaches should cohort by team, and refrain from participating with more than one team over the same season or time period.”
The CIF press release noted that “if the (California Department of Public Health) guidance is amended in the future, the CIF may elect to revisit the issue.”
The announcement comes with prep sports set to resume in the coming weeks, with the H-DNL eying a Feb. 1 start for some of the less restricted sports.
