By Ray Hamill — Four members of the College of the Redwoods women’s basketball team have been honored for their academic excellence during the 2019/20 school year.

Freshmen Theresia Dickey and Juliana Ortega-Miranda and sophomores Abiona Katri and Breesia Northern were all named to the California Community College Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State Team.

To be included, a student athlete must have completed 24 units and maintain a GPA of at least 3.5.

The four Corsairs were among the 116 student athletes from 41 schools named to the prestigious team.

Northern, who is red-shirting at Simpson College this year, led the Corsairs with a GPA of 3.85, while Katri had a GPA of 3.79, Ortega-Miranda a 3.75 and Dickey a 3.55.

The CR women are tentatively scheduled to tip off a shortened 12-game season in early March.
