The Eureka Loggers got the new softball season off to a flying start with a pair of wins at Novato High on Saturday.
The Loggers beat the host school 26-3 and followed that with a 6-0 over Hayward.
Freshman Claire Maples hit a pair of home runs in the opener to get her high school career off to an impressive start.
Likewise with fellow freshman Taliyah Cooper, who also hit a home run in the win.
A third freshman, Kira Morris, pitched the win, striking out nine batters in five innings.
The Eureka offense came out swinging, with 14 players accounting for 26 hits
Game two was a closer affair, with just one run separating the two teams until the final inning, when the Loggers scored five times to pull away.
Junior Alexa Morehouse got the win in the pitcher’s circle, striking out nine in six innings work.
Player of the game McKenna Beach finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run, while Maples, Morris, Wyatt Thurston, Payton Goodman and Ashley Pierce all scored in the final inning to seal the win.
Next up, the Eureka girls will host Clear Lake on Friday at 4 p.m.
