By Ray Hamill — The College of Redwoods softball team opens conference play this coming week, with a home doubleheader against Feather River on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles are 7-10-1 on the season, but the perennial conference contenders are expected to be a tough proposition for the CR women.

The Corsairs, however, will cary plenty of momentum into the games after an impressive doubleheader sweep at home to Mendocino on Friday.

With the two wins, CR improves to 9-8 on the season.

In game one, Shawnau Johnson hit a walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 6-5 extra-innings win.

Sophomore pitcher Lindsey Scott pitched a shutout in the nightcap, as the Corsairs won 10-0 in five innings.

Wednesday’s games will be played at CR, with the opener scheduled to start at noon.
