The Humboldt State men’s rugby team won 54-8 at Monterey Bay on Saturday to remain on track for this year’s NSCRO playoffs.
The win was a good response to the previous weekend’s disappointing loss at home to Cal Maritime.
The Jacks’ depth was put to the test with a number of players beat up after the Maritime loss, and a recent recruiting push appears to be paying dividends.
“Our depth has improved as a team since we have had successful recruiting classes over the last two years,” assistant coach Vincent Celotto said.
In particular, the Jacks had a good night with their lineouts, winning 16 of 18.
The HSU (3-1) men play at Sonoma State on Saturday, where a win will guarantee a spot in the Pacific West Regional tournament in Tuscon, AZ., in early April.
NSCRO is the National Small College Rugby Organization.
