All five H-DNL wrestlers to qualify for this weekend’s state championships in Bakersfield won at least one match in an impressive showing for the North Coast contingent.

Leading the way, Eureka senior Aracely Rendon-Gomez placed for the second straight year at the prestigious tournament, finishing sixth this year, one spot ahead of where she placed in 2019.

Rendon-Gomez won her opening two matches before dropping down to the consolation bracket, and closed out the three-day event 4-3.

Del Norte seniors Danika Scott and Skyler Moore also each closed out impressive prep careers with a strong showing.

Scott, who won a North Coast Section championship last weekend, won her opening match before dropping to the consolation bracket, and closed out 3-2.

Two other Eureka girls, both juniors, had strong showings in their first trip to the state championships.

Kelli Johnston finished 2-2, while Helena Rogers lost to top seed and eventual champion Katja Osteen in her opening match at 170, before battling back to go 1-1 in the consolation bracket.
