Corsairs continue to struggle in baseball

The Corsairs’ struggles on the baseball field continued this weekend, as College of the Redwoods lost all three games at home to Butte.

The Corsairs lost 9-2 on Saturday, after dropping two games on Friday by scores of 4-0 and 19-2.

After a 6-0 start to the season, CR has now lost 12 of its last 13 gams to drop to 7-12.

In six conference games, all losses, the Corsairs have been outscored 72-11.

Caleb Ruiz and Dylan Short each finished with a pair of hits in Saturday’s loss, with Ruiz also driving in a run.

Ruiz took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out five.

For the season, the former St. Bernard’s standout is now 2-3.

Short and Charles Morgan each doubled in the loss.

Morgan has been one of the bright spots for Redwoods and is batting a team-best .368 on the season.

He had three hits in Friday’s nightcap.

Gannon Cyphers also doubled on Friday and now has a team-leading six doubles on the season.

Chandler Jones also continued to impress on the mound in Friday’s opener, allowing just three hits and four walks in eight innings despite the loss.

The Corsairs will try to get back on track at Feather River next weekend.
