WEEKEND COLLEGE ROUNDUP — CR baseball struggles; HSU men win

College of the Redwoods continued to struggle on the baseball field over the weekend, dropping a third game at Lassen on Saturday.

The Corsairs lost 18-5 and were outscored 40-7 in the three-game weekend sweep.

Caleb Ruiz took the loss on the mound on Saturday, pitching four innings and allowing five earned runs on nine hits and striking out two.

Connor Parnell and Max Shanks each finished with two hits as the CR men were out-hit 13-7 and committed a remarkable nine errors.

The two teams combined for 14 errors.

Gannon Cyphers added a double for CR, which has now lost five straight and eight of nine after a 6-0 start.

CR dropped to 0-3 i nthe Golden Valley Conference and 7-8 overall.

The Corsairs play at Mendocino on Tuesday.


HSU Men 79, Stanislaus State 64

The Lumberjacks ended a four-game losing skid with a road win at Stanislaus State on Saturday night.

Leland Green scored 30 points for the Jacks, who improved to 5-16 in conference and 9-17 overall.

HSU Women 63, Stanislaus State 65

Alexia Thrower continued her outstanding season with 29 points as the Jacks saw their four-game winning streak end.

HSU is now 15-11 overall and 11-10 in conference.

With one game remaining, the eighth-placed Jacks can finish no lower than eighth in the CCAA, and are just win out of fourth in what is a tight battle that will go down to the final game.

Both HSU teams host Chico State on Thursday night in their final regular season games.
