By Ray Hamill — The College of the Redwoods women’s basketball team will open the NorCal playoffs at home to Skyline on Friday.
The Corsairs received the No. 8 seed for the postseason tournament, while the Trojans are No. 9.
The game may be played as part of a playoff doubleheader with the CR men, depending on what seed they receive on Monday.
Last week the CR women were crowned co-champions of the Golden Valley Conference, their first conference title in 40 years.
The CR men also won a GVC title, giving the school a first-ever double of championships.
Both teams feature squads of mostly local players who have captured the imagination of the North Coast community this season and a packed house will be expected when the women host on Friday.
Game time has yet to be finalized, depending on whether the game will be played as a part of a doubleheader.
Skyline, which finished in a three-way tie atop the Coast North Conference, is 19-9 on the season.
The Corsairs are 20-5.
It was also announced on Sunday that CR freshman Ashley Quigley was named to the third-all-state team.
CO-GVC champion Butte received a No. 3 seed for the tournament, because of a tougher pre-conference schedule.
Five of the six GVC teams qualified for the playoffs showcasing just how competitive this year’s conference was.
