NCS WRESTLING — Del Norte’s Scott wins section title; Eureka girls place third

Del Norte’s Danika Scott was crowned NCS champion on Saturday, capping a good day for the H-DNL at the section wrestling championships.

Scott pinned Casa Grande’s Lilly McCoy, the No. 3 wrestler in the nation, for the championship at 235 pounds.

Although they didn’t have any individual champions, it was also a good day for the Eureka girls, who placed third in the team competition and had seven girls place.

Leading the way were Aracely Rendon Gomez (189 pounds) and Kelli Johnston (143), who each placed second in their respective brackets.

Teammate Helena Rogers placed third at 170, while Evelyn Lopez-Mata (150) and Sarah Grow (116) each placed fifth.

Rounding out an outstanding day for the Loggers, Slate Delsman (121) and Yarceli Rendon-Gomez (131) each placed seventh.

Del Norte was 10th in the girls team competition.

For the boys, the Warriors placed an impressive sixth overall, with Fortuna 21st.

Both Del Norte and Fortuna each had three wrestlers place.

At 145 pounds, Del Norte’s Skyler Moore led the way for the local contingent, placing second.

His teammates Chaz Harrison (132) and Keadon Henderson (220) each placed fifth.

For Fortuna, Levi Nyberg (152), Andrew Hansen (138) and Luciano Medina (285) each all placed fifth.
